Promoting Unconventional Water Resources to Enhance Agriculture Productivity in Water-Scarce OIC Member Countries

Date : 01 November 2025
Venue : Male, Maldives

In November 2025, the Maldives passed a national policy which prohibits young people born on or after January 1, 2007, from using, buying or selling tobacco within the borders of the country. The policy was initiated by H.E. Mr. Mohamed MUIZZU, President of the Maldives, earlier this year and took effect on November 1, 2025. The Maldives is the first and only country in the world to enact a nationwide generational tobacco prohibition. The ban is representative of the country’s commitment to protecting its citizens, especially its youth, from the harms of tobacco use.
