Recognizing Outstanding Players in the Health Sector

The Ministry of Health in
Uganda, in conjunction with Xtraordinary Media, has launched the third edition
of the Heroes in Health Awards (HIHA) under the theme “Rebuilding the Health
Sector with Innovation and Creativity.” The annual merit-based awards aim to
recognize outstanding individuals, entities, organizations, services, products,
and programs in the Ugandan health sector.
“Without our health
workers, we are unable to achieve our desired impact. Our health workers work
in the most resource-constrained settings, hard-to-reach areas, serving
overwhelming numbers in a bid to save lives every day. We are cognizant of the
fact that the health workers need to be motivated and recognised” Dr. Jane Ruth
Aceng Ocero, the Minister for Health, said during the launch.
Dr. Aceng added that the
coronavirus pandemic had laid the groundwork to transform healthcare in Uganda.
“We are now assessing how to move forward strategically to continue the
momentum of innovation. How are health facilities, organizations, individuals,
implementing partners, communities, and the health system positioning for the
future in a post-pandemic world” she noted.
